Ukraine/Russland/NATO – der Sammler am 16. November 2022
„Since the start of Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine, NATO has increased vigilance across our eastern flank,“ NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said after the meeting. He stated that we need to await the outcome of the ongoing investigation, but „we have no indication that this was the result of a deliberate attack and we have no indication that Russia is preparing offensive military actions against NATO“. He added: „Our preliminary analysis suggests that the incident was likely caused by a Ukrainian air defence missile fired to defend Ukrainian territory against Russian cruise missile attacks. But let me clear: this is not Ukraine’s fault. Russia bears ultimate responsibility as it continues its illegal war against Ukraine.“
Despite indications that Russia did not fire the missile that caused a deadly explosion in Poland on Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine continued on Wednesday to assert that Russia had done so.
That position is at odds with the preliminary findings of Poland and NATO, which indicate that a Ukrainian air defense missile caused the blast.
“I have no doubt that it was not our missile,” Mr. Zelensky told Ukrainian news outlets. However, he allowed for the possibility he was mistaken. “I want us to be fair, and if it was the use of our air defense, then I want that evidence,” he said, urging that Ukraine be allowed to join the investigation into the blast.
Thiels: Die Patrouillen finden immer in bestimmten festgelegten Lufträumen statt.
Ukraine’s Khmelnytskyy Nuclear Power Plant (KhNPP) lost all access to the electricity grid yesterday due to military attacks in the country, forcing it to temporarily rely on diesel generators for back-up power, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said today, citing information he had received from Ukrainian authorities.
The KhNPP’s grid connection was completely lost at 18:35 local time on 15 November, after the site’s four operating power lines were progressively lost over a two-and-a-half-hour period because of missile attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure, Ukraine told the IAEA. During this period, the plant’s two reactors were shut down, halting their delivery of electricity to households, factories and others.
More than nine hours later – at 03:45 this morning – the plant regained off-site electricity through two 330 kilovolt (kV) back-up power lines, and the diesel generators were stopped. One of those lines was again lost about an hour later and only restored at 11:25. The two reactor units remain in shutdown mode.
Another nuclear power plant also located in western Ukraine – Rivne – lost the connection to one of its 750 kV power lines yesterday afternoon. As a result, the plant reduced its power output, and one of its four units was automatically disconnected. At 04:00 today, the plant increased the power of one of its other units to continue supplying electricity to the Ukrainian network
While Ukraine’s largest nuclear power plant – Zaporizhzhya – has lost off-site power several times during the current military conflict in the country, yesterday’s events underlined the fragile nuclear safety and security situation also at its other nuclear facilities. Ukraine has 15 reactors at four nuclear power plants, as well as the Chornobyl site.
• Das britische Intel Update:
The Kakhovka Dam on the Dnipro River is the site of major hydroelectric power plant as well as providing one of the two main road crossing points of the lower reaches of the Dnipro River.
Ukrainian precision strikes have targeted the site since August, successfully disrupting Russian military resupply.
On 11 November 2022 the site suffered further significant damage, almost certainly because of controlled demolitions by retreating Russian forces. This was likely done in an attempt to hinder future Ukrainian advances.
Three spans of both the road and rail bridges on the northern end of the dam were destroyed, rendering the crossings impassable.
However, the three spillway gates below this section of the dam remained largely intact. The current level of damage is unlikely to result in major flooding downstream.
• Das Morgenbriefing des ukrainischen Generalstabs:
Operational update regarding the russian invasion as of 06:00, on November 16, 2022
The two hundred sixty-sixth (266) day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to a russian military large-scale invasion continues.
The enemy is trying to restrain the actions of the Defence Forces in certain directions and continues to equip defensive lines on the left bank of the Dnieper. At the same time, it does not stop offensive operations in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka directions.
Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian soldiers have repelled attacks by russian invaders in the areas of Bilohorivka, Kurdyumivka, Novokalynivka, Vesele, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Vodyane, Novomykhailivka, and Vremivka settlements in the Donetsk oblast.
Over the past day, the russian federation launched a massive missile attack on the military and civilian infrastructure of Ukraine. Residential buildings of citizens and objects of critical infrastructure in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsya, Poltava, Lviv, Khmelnytskyi and other regions of our country were affected.
The enemy fired more than 90 Kh-101 and Kalibr missiles and more than ten attack UAVs. According to detailed information, 77 cruise missiles, 10 Iranian attack drones „Shahed-136“ and one UAV „Orion“ were destroyed by the units of the Defence Forces. Additional information is being clarified.

• Das Briefing des russischen Verteidigungsministeriums:
Russian Defence Ministry report on the progress of the special military operation in Ukraine (16 November 2022)
On 15 November, Russian Armed Forces launched a massive attack using high-precision long-range air- and sea-based weaponry, at the military control system of Ukraine and energy facilities related to it. The goal of the attack has been reached.
All the launched missiles have accurately stricken the assigned targets. All the facilities have been neutralised.
We want to emphasise that the high-precision attacks were launched only at the targets located in Ukraine and no closer than 35 kilometres from the Ukrainian–Polish border.
The footage of the wreckage detected in Przewodów, published in the evening on 15 November in Poland, has definitely been identified by professionals of Russian defence industrial complex as elements of S-300 air defence guided missile of Ukrainian Air Force.
The statements of various Ukrainian sources and foreign officials on the fall of alleged ‚Russian rockets‘ in Przewodów are a deliberate provocation aimed at escalating the situation.
We also want to stress that no missile strikes were launched at any facilities in Kiev within high-precision firepower’s massive attack on the facilities located in Ukraine.
All the destructions in the residential quarters of the Ukrainian capital, demonstrated by the Kiev regime, are the direct consequence of the fall and self-destruction of the air defence missiles launched by Ukrainian forces from the foreign-manufactured air defence systems deployed within the city limits.
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.
In Kupyansk direction, the Army Aviation of Russian Aerospace Forces have frustrated the attempts made by 3 company tactical groups from 14th and 92nd mechanised brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to launch an offensive towards Berestovoye, Kolesnikovka (Kharkov region) and Novosyolovskoye (Lugansk People’s Republic).
Over 80 Ukrainian personnel, 6 tanks, 8 armoured fighting vehicles, 2 armoured motor vehicles, and 3 self-propelled artillery systems have been eliminated.
In Krasny Liman direction, artillery fire operation and intensive action of Russian units have resulted in repelling 2 attempts made by AFU company tactical groups to attack Russian positions towards Kolomyichikha (Lugansk People’s Republic).
The comprehensive firepower’s operation has resulted in causing casualties of over 100 Ukrainian personnel, 2 tanks, and 4 armoured fighting vehicles.
In Donetsk direction, the AFU made unsuccessful attempts to halt the advance of Russian units by counterattacks towards Kurdyumovka, Avdeyevka, Staromikhaylovka and Georgiyevka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Artillery operation and decisive action of assault groups have resulted in halting and scattering the enemy units.
Over 160 Ukrainian personnel, 3 tanks, 5 armoured fighting vehicles, 1 pickup, and 2 motor vehicles with ordnance have been eliminated.
In South Donetsk direction, Russian forces have prevented an attack launched by AFU battalion tactical group towards Stepnoye (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Firepower’s operation has resulted in halting and driving the enemy back to initial positions.
Over 65 Ukrainian personnel and mercenaries, 2 infantry fighting vehicles, 5 armoured motor vehicles, and 3 motor vehicles have been eliminated.
Operational-Tactical and Army Aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery have neutralised 7 AFU command posts near Krakhmalnoye, Berestovoye (Kharkov region), Stelmakhovka (Lugansk People’s Republic), Sadovoye, Tyaginka, Zmiyevka (Kherson region), Kirovo (Donetsk People’s Republic), as well as 94 artillery units at their firing positions, manpower and hardware in 185 areas.
1 U.S.-manufactured AN/TPQ-50 counterbattery warfare radar has been destroyed near Novoyegorovka (Lugansk People’s Republic).
