Germany pledges to provide USD 2mn in aid for the reconstruction and cleaning of 3 irrigation canals in Baghlan province.
The canals, situated in Baladwari, Gawhargan and Akhtcha, will irrigate 12,000 hectares of land and provide work opportunities for thousands of people, said Rahmatullah Saifi, a canalization official in the northeastern zone.

Explosion kill Afghan security official in Baghlan province
District security chief for Burka was killed following a roadside improvised explosive device attack in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan on Monday.
Atleast security guards of Burka district security chief were also killed following the explosion.

hieß es bei Khaama Press am 1. Juli.

In the latest operation against Taliban in northern Kunduz province, five insurgents were killed and two policemen injured, police said.
„Units of police targeted a Taliban hideout in Wazir village of Dasht-e-Archi district at noon Wednesday which triggered heavy firefight during which five Taliban rebels were killed and two policemen injured,“ police spokesman in Kunduz province, Sayed Sarwar Hussaini told a news conference.

Two suspected suicide bombers were shot dead by Afghan security personnel in the Dasht-e-Archi district of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Monday.
The bombers on motorbikes were killed on Sunday night when they were trying to enter a funeral ceremony for a local police commander
Administrative head of Dasht-i-Archi, Sheikh Sadruddin, told Pajhwok Afghan News one suicide vest exploded as police opened fire on the bombers, killing both.

The Governor of Jowzjan Province has temporarily fled his region after armed gunmen attacked his compound in the northern Afghan city of Sheberghan last week. Jowzjan Governor Alim Saee accused the leader of the National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan, the influential General Dostum, of having orchestrated the attack and called on central government to investigate the matter.

Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi told reporters that 299 police were killed in the last month, and another 618 were wounded. The Defense Ministry said it did not have monthly figures for the number of Afghan soldiers killed.
In the same time span, Sediqqi said 753 militants were killed in joint operations with the military and others, and more than 300 were arrested. Also, 180 civilians were killed.
Sediqqi did not provide comparison figures from previous months, but according to an Associated Press count, the violence this year is similar to its highest levels in nearly 12 years of war.
