ExerciseWatch: ABC-Truppe bei ‚Summer Shield‘ in Lettland

Zum Mitplotten: Die Serie von Übungen an der Ostflanke, an denen auch Bundeswehrsoldaten im Rahmen der re-assurance, der Rückversicherung der osteuropäischen NATO-Länder, beteiligt sind, wird aktuell in Lettland fortgesetzt. Auf dem Übungsplatz Ādaži begann am (gestrigen) Sonntag die Übung Summer Shield, bei der vor allem Kampfunterstützer gefragt sind. Deutschland ist mit rund 100 ABC-Abwehrspezialisten beteiligt.

Aus der Mitteilung des lettischen Verteidigungsministeriums:

From 17th to 29th April military exercise “Summer Shield XIII” will be conducted in Ādaži Training Area and adjacent territories, in Latvia. The aim of the exercise is to train units on integration of combat support and combat service support capabilities in battalion and brigade level defensive operations. More than 1 600 soldiers from Canada, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and the United States will participate in Latvian led exercise.

On April 17th in Camp Adazi the opening ceremony of the exercise was conducted with participation of units from participating nations. Latvian Land Forces Infantry Brigade commander, Colonel Mārtiņš Liberts welcomed all soldiers in the exercise and wished a successful training and achieving all their goals.
The goal for this training event is to integrate and coordinate fire support in infantry unit operations through a number of combat support elements – artillery, aviation, defence against weapons of mass destruction, support of combat and construction engineers in united operation with overcoming obstacles, involving joint fire observers and close air support controllers.
