Yesterday, early in the afternoon, as a result of attacks on polling stations in north MITROVICA, KFOR troops rapidly intervened. At the request of EULEX, KFOR troops, pre-deployed in the north of KOSOVO to contribute to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement during the election, immediately intervened. Within 15 minutes of the EULEX request, KFOR deployed a Quick Reaction Force from the Carabinieri Multinational Specialised Unit (MSU) to MITROVICA north. Within 1 hour, reserve units from the KFOR Tactical Reserve Manoeuvre Battalion (KTM) were also deployed to areas of concern in MITROVICA and reinforced other KFOR units already deployed in the area.
In addition, in the town of ZVECAN, KFOR troops reacted to a disturbance and restored security within the area. Later in the evening, KFOR, as requested by EULEX, provided for a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement on the routes through which the election ballot material travelled to the counting centre.
