Exercise Watch: Russische „Snap drills“

Large-scale military drills held across Russia
Military exercises and combat readiness checks are under way in many Russian regions. (…)
Russia’s Armed Forces are for the first time holding their Arctic exercises that kicked off on Monday and will last through March 21.
The exercises involve the Northern Fleet, units of the Western Military District and the Airborne Forces. A total of 38,000 personnel are taking part in the drills together with 3,360 pieces of military hardware, over 55 battle ships and submarines, 110 aircraft and helicopters. (…)

Arctic snap check involves 80,000 servicemen — Russia’s General Staff

The number of Russian servicemen taking part in the snap checks of the combat readiness in the Arctic has reached 80,000, the chief of the Russian General Staff said on Thursday.
Valery Gerasimov also said 220 aircraft are taking part in the drills.

Intensity of Russian submarines’ combat patrol missions up 50% — Navy’s commander

Russian army snap checks pose no threat to other states – General Staff
Massive military drills that Russia launched on March 16 do not threaten other countries, the chief of the Russian General Staff said on Thursday.
„The current operative and combat drills conducted by the armed forces are planned and pose no threat to any state,“ General Valery Gerasimov said.

Russian army combat readiness check no muscle flexing — Defense Ministry
The snap check of combat readiness in Russia’s Armed Forces is maximally open and is taking place only in Russian territory, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said on Thursday.
„It’s no clatter of tracks, no arms rattling, no muscle flexing,“ he said. We are not acting like some countries that provocatively display their strength near the border with Russia, moving personnel, weapons and equipment from their own to foreign territory,“ he said.
„Moreover, during these actions they stage some kind of marches of Boy Scouts (similar to our Young Pioneers) who walk in pants with straps carrying pennants of various colours,“ said the deputy defense minister.
