Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announces the authorization of a Presidential Drawdown of security assistance valued at up to $675 million to meet Ukraine’s critical security and defense needs. This authorization is the Biden Administration’s twentieth drawdown of equipment from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021.
Capabilities in this package include:
– Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
– Four 105mm Howitzers and 36,000 105mm artillery rounds;
– Additional High-speed Anti-radiation missiles (HARM);
– 100 Armored High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV);
– 1.5 million rounds of small arms ammunition;
– More than 5,000 anti-armor systems;
– 1,000 155mm rounds of Remote Anti-Armor Mine (RAAM) Systems;
– Additional grenade launchers and small arms;
– 50 armored medical treatment vehicles;
– Night vision devices and other field equipment.
In addition, State Department notified Congress of our intent to make $2 billion available in long-term investments in Foreign Military Financing: $1 billion to bolster the security of Ukraine and $1 billion for 18 of Ukraine’s regional neighbors.

Norway will donate Hellfire missiles to Ukraine. The donation includes approximately 160 missiles, launching pads and guidance units. Ukraine will also receive night-vision equipment drawn from Armed Forces inventories. (…)
This is a weapon that Ukraine has asked for, and it will prove useful in their fight against Russian invasion forces. The missile is easy to operate, and can be used against both land- and sea-targets, says Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
The Norwegian Armed Forcestested and verified the status of the missiles prior to their shipment. They have now been shipped from Norway. Ukrainian operators have been trained in the use of Hellfire by Norwegian instructors.
The Hellfire system is nearing the end of its service life was scheduled to be phased out the Norwegian Armed Forces.

The Pentagon has sent Ukraine its most accurate artillery shell, the GPS-guided Excalibur, according to budget documents that confirm the previously unannounced addition to the arsenal assembled to combat the Russian invasion.
A plan to replenish the US stock of Excaliburs acknowledges for the first time that the Pentagon has been supplying Ukrainian forces with the shell. Officials have sidestepped questions about the Excalibur despite reports that planning was underway to provide it and then that it was already in use in Ukraine.

Let me give you a very brief battlefield update. As you know, the Russians attacked beginning 24 February — so think in terms of 24 February to about the middle of April. The Russians continue the strategic attack to try to capture Kyiv, get to the Dnipro River, assault through the south out of Crimea, into the Donbas, and then also potentially conduct an attack against Odessa. Those attacks failed. They didn’t seize the capital, they didn’t topple the government, they didn’t get to the Dnipro River, and they didn’t seize Odessa.
So in the beginning of April, the Russians adjusted their war aim and they consolidated their forces in the east, in order to attack and seize all of the Donbas and hold Odessa at risk. They launched that offensive on or about the 15th or 16th of April and they have been defeated in that.
Their operational objectives in that offensive have not been successful. They have not achieved (all of the Donbas)(sic), and they have only crossed the Dnipro River in the south, in the vicinity of Kherson. So their operational aims, in addition to their strategic aims, have been defeated by a very successful defense conducted by Ukraine.
At the beginning of this month, on or about the 1st of September, Ukraine launched an offensive in order to seize the operational and strategic initiative. That offensive is ongoing. That offensive is in its early stages and it’s too early to give a full assessment, but to date, Ukraine is effectively using their fires to shape the ground maneuver as they continue their offensive in the south. And what we’re talking about is the area just north of the Dnipro River, in the vicinity of Kherson. (…)
We are seeing real and measurable gains from Ukraine in the use of these systems. For example, the Ukrainians have struck over 400 targets with the HIMARS and they’ve had devastating effect.
Russian lines of communication and supply channels are severely strained. It is having a direct impact on the Russian ability to project and sustain combat power. Russian command and control in the headquarters have been disrupted and they’re having — they’re having great difficulty resupplying their forces and replacing their combat losses.

• Das britische Intel Update:

In Kherson Oblast, Ukrainian brigades continue to conduct offensive operations. Ukraine has probably destroyed a military pontoon bridge at Darivka, which Russian forces had deployed after the nearby road bridge was severely damaged.
The Darivka crossing is one of the main routes between the northern and southern sectors of Russia’s military presence along the Dnipro river. Ukraine’s systematic precision targeting of vulnerable crossing points likely continues to impose pressure on Russian forces as they attempt to contain Ukrainian attacks: it slows their ability to deploy operational reserves and resupply materiel from the east.

This week we have good news from the Kharkiv region. Probably, you all have already seen reports about the activity of Ukrainian defenders. And I think every citizen feels proud of our warriors. It is a well-deserved pride, a right feeling.
Now is not the time to name the settlements to which the Ukrainian flag returns. But it’s time to say thank you to the 25th airborne brigade, the 92nd separate mechanized brigade and the 80th airborne assault brigade for their bravery and heroism shown during combat missions.
I also express gratitude today to the 406th separate artillery brigade for the extremely successful hits in the areas where the occupiers are concentrated in the south of our country and to the 60th separate infantry brigade, which consistently advances our positions.
Each success of our military in one direction or another changes the general situation along the entire frontline in favor of Ukraine. The more difficult it is for the occupiers, the more losses they have, the better the positions of our defenders in Donbas will be, the more reliable the defense of Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and the cities of the Dnipropetrovsk region will be, the faster we will be able to liberate the Azov region and the entire south.

Operational update regarding the russian invasion as of 06.00, on September 8, 2022
The one hundred ninety-seventh (197) day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to a russian military invasion continues.
The enemy continues to focus its efforts on establishing full control over the territory of the Donetsk oblast and maintaining the temporarily captured districts of the Kherson oblast, parts of the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, and Mykolaiv oblasts.

In order to counter the leakage of information about the movement of occupation units at the railway station of the settlement of Sokolohirne, the armed forces of the russian federation have strengthened filtering measures.
In the temporarily captured territories of Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson oblasts, in preparation for the so-called „referendums“, the occupiers are calling on local residents who have left the temporarily captured territory to return to their homes by October 1. In case of refusal, the russian invaders threaten to „nationalize“ the housing.
In the occupied part of the Chuguyiv district of the Kharkiv region, the enemy began active measures to forcibly mobilize the local population. Men of conscription age are detained and sent to Vovchansk, to the so-called „recruitment center“.
