Ukraine/Russland/NATO – der Sammler am 27. August 2022

Slovakia signed a deal on Saturday under which fellow NATO states the Czech Republic and Poland will police its skies as Bratislava withdraws its Soviet-made MiG-29s from service, potentially freeing up the old jets to send to Ukraine.
Slovakia has said it is ready to send the 11 MiG fighters to Ukraine, whose military has long relied on Soviet-era equipment and which has appealed for more supplies from NATO nations to boost its ability to battle invading Russian forces.

Under the cover of darkness, a nondescript Russian cargo ship slipped through the Bosporus in a Turkey. The narrow strait is the only waterway connecting the Mediterranean with the Black Sea. The ship, Sparta II, is suspected to have been carrying sophisticated weapons towards Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Russia is believed to have shipped S-300 air defense system from its bases in Syria to the Black Sea. (…)
Sparta II’s destination was Novorossiysk, a Russian port and major naval base close to the Kerch Bridge. By implication, the S-300 missiles are to bolster defenses either near Kerch, or other areas of Russian operations. Crimea is seeing increased Ukrainian drone activity and they may be to boost defenses there.
The ship is understood to have sailed from Tartus in Syria, where S-300 components had been gathered on the pier.

• Das britische Intel Update:

Over the last five days, there has probably been an increase in the intensity of Russian assaults along the Donetsk sector of the Donbas. North of Donetsk city, there has been intense fighting near the towns of Siversk and Bakhmut.
Pro-Russian separatist militia have probably made some progress towards the centre of the village of Pisky, near Donetsk Airport. However, overall, Russian forces have secured few territorial gains.
There is a realistic possibility that Russia has increased its efforts in the Donbas in an attempt to draw in or fix additional Ukrainian units, amid speculation that Ukraine is planning a major counter-offensive.
